Hello, I have an former PC with Windows XP SP3 which I intend to proceed considering of some software that runs but on XP (I could employ virtual automobile but information technology would still need this).
Now what is the lightweightest and fastest antivirus which still supports Win XP?
I've tried a few, Bitdefender and Kaspersky, and they were actually slowing down the PC (which is really swell regarding to components, core2duo e4600 2.4 ghz with four gb ram), and tried Baidu which worked fine but they stop updating information technology.
Now, co-ordinate to this site, there be at to the lowest degree 10 major AV providers that go along their suites updated to Win XP. Note: I merely need bones AV protection (and free).
Does anyone have easily-on feel with an AV that is fast on Win XP here?

it might be very difficult to notice any that still support XP, frankly...
I noticed ClamAV's page says it does, simply, you can exam information technology for yourself...

Webroot Qihoo 360 Kaspersky Lab
I would suggest you to download and install IPS/IDS detection software like snort which can exist download and installed information technology is open source but you lot need to read the rules first.
IPS/IDS will observe the threat before it enters your system. Read more well-nigh IPS/IDS on this resources

I believe Avast is still the lightest, and supports XP - they take a page/download specifically for XP https/www.avast.com/windows-xp-antivirus
I believe Panda is pretty lightweight too, merely not sure if at that place's a 'free' option.

edit: fired upwardly that laptop and it looks like panda is using about 50 mb ram on win 7. bang-up really

I'll 2d peoples opinions on Panda. Non too complicated, not besides resources hoggy, and gives basic protection. Y'all could also try Comodo or Scrap Defender, but probably less luck with these two.

Avast Free supports Windows XP SP3, and we're consistently highly rated for performance (see AV-comparatives and other independent testers)
Happy to reply whatsoever questions if you lot wanted to try it out.
Another tip for AV on older or lower spec machines -- practice an advanced install, which will allow you to manually select which shields and features you want, and may speed things up. You can too tweak scans, exclusions, etc. to maximize functioning of both existent-fourth dimension monitoring and scans.

Can 2nd Avast also. Not a bad antivirus, back in the actual Windows XP days, it was a strong solution against problems. It is now, with some quirks here and in that location. But a lot of antivirus solutions still support Windows XP equally information technology is existence used by people (For some reason).

Good question, totally slipped my mind to enquire that.
I approximate if y'all are just looking for emails, regular scans with Malwarebytes should suffice. Apparently, yous have to be enlightened of the contents of emails, what you are clicking and avert spam, but other than that, I don't retrieve anti-virus will exist needed.
